Soul Talks

Soul Talks are heart-felt conversations on topics we care about with people we respect, value and feel connection to!  They can be conversations where we learn something, express deeply held beliefs or just explore thoughts and exchange perspectives.  When we connect in a meaningful way it always nurtures the soul!  I welcome your comments. We all have a voice and when we share honestly we recognize the connections and our humanity!

Falling & Getting Back Up Again!

7/15/2021

This is truly a Soul Talk that touches my soul and I know that it touche's Mitzi Cole's heart and soul, too. Leaping in and following your dreams is a hard step that many people never take. Doing so though is so important and truthfully, if you ever want to realize your dreams you do have to leap at some point. Most of the people who have been successful at creating their vision will tell you that along the way they have made some missteps and learned some often hard, but valuable lessons. Sometimes they have failed even more than once, before finally arriving at success. Almost all will tell you that those failures were the most valuable part of the journey and they wouldn’t change a thing. Watch my conversation with Mitzi Cole, Founder of The Cookie Technique, Women’s Empowerment Coach, Cosmetologist and Pole Dance Teacher.  Mitzi was the owner of the former Providencia Pond and she put her heart into it and then had to make the very difficult decision to let it go and move on. Watch this Soul Talk as we chat about that process.

Does Chivalry Still Exist?

7/15/2021

Today's world and the norms for behavior both between the sexes and between humans, in general, have changed so much over the past several decades that chivalry is not something we see practiced a lot, if at all. In fact, does it actually still exist and have a place in our society? Bill Protzmann, founder of Musiccare.net, Author, Coach and Speaker invited me to ponder that question after reading his acticle on the subject and I, in turn, thought it deserved a good conversation. Watch as Bill and I talk about chivalry, what it is or means and whether it has a place in today's society.

Odd Girl Out - Fitting In

7/15/2021

Many people struggle with fitting in or not fitting in, as it might be! The desire for connection and acceptance is very strong and can have some very impactful effects on our lives and how we see ourselves.  I think this is especially true for those of us who are very intuitive, empathic and always taking on a lot of energy from others. I have always been the "Odd Girl Out" and it took a very long time to learn what a gift and blessing that was. I was surprised when I noticed psychic intuitive, Morrighan Lynne, posting on social media about having those feelings too. I could really relatemuch of what she said and it got me thinking. I mentioned to Morrighan the topic of, "Odd Girl Out -Fitting In" and she was all in and excited to talk about it. I am thrilled to have this talk too and hope you will watch. I think it will offer some insight if you have ever felt like you weren't accepted or didn't completely belong.

Resilience is one of the keys to navigating life successfully. The ability to deal with the unexpected and triumph over adversity, as well as, find solutions when confronted with obstacles, is certainly what it takes to live a good life. Bouncing back from the dips in the road that will inevitably come is what we must be able to do. If we can manage to do it joyfully and maintain a positive and optimistic mindset that is what will serve us in the best way and give us the edge in living our best life. In this Soul Talk, Dr. Larissa Chuprina and I discuss resilience.  As an immigrant who came to the US over twenty years ago as a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Chuprina has a unique perspective from her own experience and from working with expats and immigrants in her role as an interpreter. Watch as we discuss this important topic and find out what it take to be joyfully resilient.

Body Image - What Do You Love About Your Body?

7/15/2021

Loving ourselves and the beautiful creation we are should be the easiest thing in the world. It may be the ultimate key to living an authentic, purposeful and joyful life. Yet it challenges us and many spend their lives never quite achieving this state of acceptance and self-love that is so important to every aspect of who we are and what we have to offer. I recently interviewed, Rosanne Olson, professional photographer, author, singer, songwriter and journalist on my radio show, Soul Fire Wisdom, "The Art & Soul of an American Folk Singer",  www.soulfireradio.com.  After the show we talked about her book This Is Who I Am. Rosanne's 2008, best-selling book is a collection of nude portraits and short essays of women ages 19 - 95 baring themselves body and soul at the deepest and most authentic level with regard to self-acceptance and self-love. The book is a profound expression of courage and transformation and I think an awakening for anyone who reads it. I realized it's pertinence to my life and evolution of self-love and wanted to talk about it. Ask yourself the question that Rosanne asked each of the women in her book - "What do you love about your body?" and see how you answer it.  Watch as Rosanne and I discuss her book and it's significance and impact!

In this Soul Talk, Dari Ray Arrington and I talk about race relations in America today and if and how they are changing. Dari is a 28-year-old millennial African American man who grew up in urban Chicago. He works as a K-1 teacher, has his own business and aspires to be an NBA player or coach.  This talk was motivated, in part, by my conversation in Finding Calm in the Chaos. I felt a broader perspective was needed and asked Dari if he would be up for having this conversation with me. A few of the feeling I knew Dari had regarding race relations were also motivators for this conversation, as they touched on issues that I felt we had gotten past in our society to a large degree and it seems we have not. Watch and see how your perspective lines up with our conversation and conclusions and let us know your thoughts. Comments are welcome.  This Soul Talk is a little longer, but it's a big, important & very current topic!

Recognizing & Dealing With Being An Empath!

7/14/2021

What is an Empath? It is more than being empathetic. Being empathetic is when your heart goes out to another person and you try to imagine and console them for what they are experiencing and feeling.  Most of us have this trait to some degree and it can be learned, as well.  An Empath is a person who actually feels what the other person or animal is feeling, physically or emotionally.  There are many Empaths and not all are even aware they are an Empath.  It is a sense that has to do with consciousness of energy and can also be learned or improved to some extent. It can be a gift and it can also feel overwhelming. Most Empaths have to learn to be aware of this ability and learn to recognize it, set boundaries and protect their own energy. Listen as Lela Bryan, Owner of Nicotine Solutions, Coach and Author, and I talk about how we became aware of this gift and learned how to deal with it in a positive way. Stress and anxiety are by far the biggest contributors to poor health in our society today! Maria is a Coach, Author of Finally Full of Yourself: Unlocking Your Spiritual DNA and an inspiring speaker. She was on my radio show in February of 2018 and then in April 2018, when I visited Boston, where Maria lives, for a speaking engagement at the Symposium for Integrated Health, held at the Harvard Faculty Club, I had the pleasure of meeting Maria in person.  We had lunch and spent a lovely afternoon visiting.  I totally enjoyed getting better acquainted with Maria and we had such a good time talking that she came to mind easily for a Soul Talk and I knew being Coach Maria, she would be able to talk about limiting beliefs and how they effect our lives. I really appriciate Maria's honesty and openess and I am sure you will too!  We had a great conversation, so listen for some great insights from this amazing and beautiful lady and me. Sadly, Maria passed away from breast cancer in January, 2021.

Synchronicity & Serendipity

7/14/2021

There is an amazing energy flow to the Universe and when we get in-sync with that and everything is coming to us in a way that seems to be in alignment with our highest and best aspirations, it then feels a little like magic! What if we think of that as the way it is suppose to be? What if all is suppose to flow in our flavor and abundance and good things are meant to come to us or maybe become our creations? And then, throw in a dash of serendipity, when we are surprised by something awesome and unexpected! I met Anne Logue in 2016, when we both spoke at "The Symposium for Personal Development" at the Harvard Faculty Club. Anne lives in Philedelphia and it is serendipitous that we became friends and I saw her again in 2018 at the Harvard Faculty Club for "The Symposium for Integrative Health"! Anne was telling me about some feelings of synchronicity happening in her life and had the great idea of doing a Soul Talk on this topic. Listen to the conversation with Anne and I talking about this fun topic and how we can have more synchronicity & serendipity in our lives and see what you think. You can find more about Anne at www.annehunterloguebooks,com

Perfectionism - Being Beautifully Imperfect

7/14/2021

We live in a world where being perfect or fitting a perconceived mold is ingrained in us from a very early age and most of us fall into the trap of trying to reach that preconceived and unreal ideal.  For many, it becomes an obsession that really takes us away from who we are, as uniquely imperfect and fabulous individuals and sets us squarely on a journey to a destination we can never attain. When we become obsessed with perfection it affects our self-worth on a deep level and distracts us from our brilliance. Perfectionism is different from the pursuit of excellence or self-improvement which can be a healthy desire to constantly learn and grow. That pursuit stems from deep self-love and nurturing and not from fear or the "I'm not enough" feelings behind perfectionism. How do we get off the perfectionism roller-coaster and shine our true light from within? I recently interviewed Michelle Wong, Leadership Coach and founder of The Non-Linear Path on "Embrace Change with Kate" about Self-Care (Dec. 17, 2018 - "Self-Care is Key to Vibrant Health!") and the subject of Perfectionism came up.  Michelle & I thought it deserved some atttention, so we decided to have a conversation about it. Listen to our conversation below and decide what you think.  Do you suffer from Perfectionism? Is it time to let go of perfectionism and be beautifully imperfect? Find Michelle Wong a on Instagram @michellewong.xo.

Walk the Talk - Be True to Yourself!

7/14/2021

I believe it's important to set an example and be true to those values that you espouse, in whatever you are doing!  I can tell you from personal experience, one thing that will discourage me from supporting a business, being part of a group, organization, cause or almost anything else is when things seem out of alignment. This is even true in my personal relationships.  If you say one thing and do another, I will loose interest fast.  It is too confusing and not worth investing my time and energy.  As my first video blog (vlog), I thought it was important to start with a topic I felt strongly about and set the tone for these talks. A friend mentioned it to me recently and I knew I had to have this talk with her.  I'll be talking with Dr. Nancy De Andrade, Psychologist & Holistic Transformational Coach. To find out more about Dr. Nancy, go to her website - nancydeandrade.com.  She was a guest on my radio show, Embrace Change with Kate on Dec. 24, 2018 for "The Spirit of Giving".  (check out the podcast) and again on March 4, 2019 for "The Subtle Energy of Self-Worth & It's Powerful Impact!" Check out our Soul Talk and see what you think.  I aspire in all that I do to "Walk the Talk" and be true to myself!
